Ermenistan'ın Lori eyaletinin ikinci büyük şehridir. Erivan-Tiflis kara yolu merkezinde, başkent Erivan'ın 139 km kuzeyinde bulunmaktadır. Şehir Sovyetler Birliği döneminde Ermenistan'ın en ünlü turistik yerlerinden biriyken, 1988 Spitak Depremi sonrası büyük yıkıma uğramıştır. Şehrin nüfusu 16,200 kadardır.
