Genel bilgiler
Sovyetler Birliği döneminde geliştirilen An-22, her biri iki karşıt pervaneyi döndüren dört turboprop motorla çalışan yüksek kanatlı, «h-kuyruk» konfigürasyonlu bir uçaktır.
Dairesel/tübüler bir ana gövdeye ve her iki yanında devasa iniş takımı çıkıntılarına sahiptir. Uçak yaklaşık 80 tonluk bir kapasiteye sahiptir ve 29.000 feet yükseklikte tam yük ile 5.000 km uçabilir.
Dünyanın «en büyük» turboprop uçağı olarak tanımlanan geniş gövdeli uçak, balistik füzeler gibi büyük yükleri, muhtemelen sahalar arasında taşımak üzere tasarlanmıştı.
