Изучала журналистику в университете Род-Айленда. Там она работала в отделе новостей и на WJAR в качестве электронного графического дизайнера. В 1983 году окончила университет.
С 1983 года работала в CNN. В 1989 году получила назначение в Германию, где начала вести репортажи о демократических изменениях в центральной и восточной Европе.
Наибольшую известность приобрела во время войны в Персидском заливе и войны в Кувейте в 1990 году. Затем вела репортажи из бывшей Югославии, в частности, из Сараево.
