Asteriidae familyasından bir denizyıldızı türüdür. Atlantik Okyanusu'nun kuzeydoğusunda yaygın olarak bulunur. Beş kolludur ve ortalama 10 ila 30 cm arasında çapa sahiptir. Genellikle turuncu ve kahverengidir ancak mor renklileride görülür. Derinsularda yaşayanlar daha soluk renklidir.
