Shawn Peter Raul Mendes (born August 8, 1998, in Pickering, Ontario) is a Canadian singer and songwriter. He spent his early days learning to play guitar by watching YouTube tutorial videos. He started doing covers on YouTube but then, gained millions of followers in a few months for singing on the now defunct video sharing platform, Vine.
