• The Geneva Conventions represent a series of treaties drawn up during the 20th century in the city of Geneva, Switzerland.
  • On 22 August 1864, the conference adopted the first Geneva Convention "for the Amelioration of the Condition of the Wounded in Armies in the Field".
  • Another conference was held in 1906 at Geneva, at which the conventions were revised; these were adopted by the Hague Peace Conference of 1907.

  • Today marks 75 years since the Geneva Conventions were adopted. These conventions have safeguarded the lives & rights of millions in armed conflicts.
  • The Geneva Conventions established legal standards for the treatment of prisoners of war, the wounded, and civilians caught in the midst of conflicts.
  • And with that, the Geneva Conventions produced their first codified international treaty. In the aftermath of World War One, two conventions were produced.
