Также известна как X11 — так называлась система для построения графического интерфейса пользователя в Unix-подобных ОС. Именно для нее и была написана лицензия. Лицензия MIT основана на BSD и в нынешнем виде практически повторяет ее по смыслу. Она позволяет использовать продукт в любом ПО, в том числе и исходный код которого будет закрытым, без ограничений.
